Breast Surgery

Breast Augmentation Complications: As with any surgery that a person goes through there are risks and complications involved. The same applies for breast augmentation surgery. Before allowing a cosmetic surgeon to come near your body with a sharp object you should talk over all of the facts and realities that could occur from your breast surgery. Most plastic surgeons will give a patient a free consultation and this is the perfect time to get all of the answers to your questions.

Infection is one of the risks of having any surgery. Most surgeons will go ahead and prescribe an antibiotic after a breast augmentation surgery to help curb any infection that might happen. Most of these infections that occur after breast surgery are while the incision area is healing. In serious cases of an infection the surgeon will opt to remove the breast implant until the infection is gone.

Bottoming Out is another complication that occur after a breast augmentation surgery. If you have ever been unlucky enough to purchase the wrong bra and you see breast hanging out from the bottom of your bra then you have an idea of what bottoming out can look like.

Bottoming out happens when the breast implant moves lower on the chest and the nipple stays where it was. several things can cause this to happen including the weight of the implant itself. This complication is also seen more in patients that are thinner and have thinner breast tissue than those who are a little heavier. The bottoming out complication can be corrected by a surgeon by folding up the scar tissue that is too low and rolling it up to where the new fold will be.

Symmastia is the complication that occurs when the breast implants meet in the middle. This usually occurs when the surgeon is trying to make way for cleavage. A good plastic surgeon would not cause this complication to happen and is one of the rarest complications today. This complication can be corrected with another surgery.

Capsular Contraction is the most common complication that occurs from a breast augmentation surgery. This complication happens when the scar tissue that is healing squeezes the breast implants into a deformed shape. The surgeon will need to remove the implants and replace them if this complication should happen.
